The £40,000 SUV joins sporty-looking versions of the XF and F-Type.
The new model is the latest in a line of Chequered Flag editions, which has already seen the badge applied to variants of the XF and F-Type. As with the XF, the E-Pace Chequered Flag is effectively an upgraded version of the R-Dynamic model, featuring extra equipment and aesthetic upgrades.
Externally, the E-Pace Chequered Flag is set apart by special side badging, 19-inch Satin Dark Grey alloy wheels, as well as the black trim around the grille, air vents and windows. Otherwise, though, the external specification is lifted straight from the R-Dynamic model. That vehicle’s sportier bumpers feature, alongside the two tailpipes and the J-blade LED daytime running light signature.
To finish the effect, Jaguar will offer customers the choice of just three colours. The Yulong White and Corris Grey have been mainstays of the Jaguar colour palette for a while, but the Phantom Red seen in these images is exclusive to this model.
Inside, the red makes yet another appearance in the contrast needlework that adorns the black leather interior, but it’s one of few visual clues to the new model’s elevated status. The only other telltales of note are the Chequered Flag treadplates, the branded steering wheel and the black aluminium gear shift paddles.
But the £40,050 asking price does buy you plenty of toys. The 10-way electrically adjustable heated seats are standard features, as are the heated steering wheel and panoramic roof. A 12.3-inch digital instrument display is included, too, along with an electric tailgate and keyless entry.
Under the bonnet, customers have a choice of four different engines, all of which come with all-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox. The cheapest is the diesel-powered D150, which produces 148 bhp, but buyers can also choose the more powerful D180 diesel with 177 bhp or the 197 bhp P200 petrol engine. At the top of the range, however, is the even more potent 245 bhp P250 petrol version.
Rawdon Glover, the managing director of Jaguar Land Rover’s UK operations, said: “The Jaguar E-Pace has been an enormous success for Jaguar UK, swiftly becoming our best-selling model in its first full year of sales. From April 2018 to March 2019 well over 11,000 UK customers have opted for our newest compact SUV, thanks to its blend of striking styling, engaging driving dynamics and high-tech features. With this new Chequered Flag special edition – featuring unique colour options and a whole host of upgraded standard features – E-Pace becomes a more enticing package than ever before."
