The C-Max is an automotive stalwart, although its recent facelift has kept the car fresh. It’s one of the smallest cars in our top 10, which means that it only ends up with a 52-litre boot when all the seats are up. Think of it more as an occasional seven-seater.

Despite its small size, the 99bhp 1-litre Ecoboost engine has more than met its match in the chunky 1,500kg MPV, however, and we’re not sure you’d be able to match the claimed mpg of 54.2 with all the revving required.
