Pagani Huayra BC and Marc Basseng could break ‘Ring record
Pagani and driver Marc Basseng are back at the Nurburgring, and the result could be a lap record for the Huayra BC.
The lap record around the Nürburgring Nordschleife might tumble in the near future and the new title-holder could be Marc Basseng behind the wheel of a Pagani Huayra BC. Videos and photos show the hypercar doing multiple laps of the famous course. Bridge to Gantry speculates the only reason he would be there in that vehicle is to set a new fastest lap.
Regardless of why he’s there, these are fantastic videos of Basseng hustling the Huayra around the ‘Ring. It’s clear that the hypercar is carrying huge velocities around the corners, but the car still looks so composed.
The Huayra BC produces 789 horsepower (588 kilowatts) and 811 pound-feet (1,098 Newton-meters) of torque from the biturbo 6.0-liter V12. It also weighs 2,685 pounds (1,218 kilograms), which is 291 pounds (132 kilograms) less than the standard version. The diet comes in part from a new seven-speed automated manual gearbox that’s 40 percent lighter. Pagani also worked with Dallara to optimize the vehicle’s aerodynamics, and they developed tweaks to every body panel except for the roof. The company limited production to just 20 BCs.
Basseng is the best person imaginable for Pagani to hire for a record lap at the 'Ring. He’s an absolute master of the track and has a close relationship with the company. Basseng was even behind the wheel of the track-only Zonda R that managed 6:47 in 2010. He was also part of the driving team for Audi’s first 24-hour win at the circuit, and set an earlier lap record in a Maserati MC12.
To really grab headlines, the Huayra BC would need at least a sub-7-minute time, and the company could really garner attention by beating the Porsche 918 Spyder’s 6:57 lap. The Pagani is down on power compared to the Porsche but weighs significantly less. With such a talented driver behind the wheel, there could be a new record soon. Whatever the Pagani does at the ‘Ring, we hope the automaker records a video of the lap.
