The E63 S will deliver 612 horsepower, so this one could have even more.
The regular E63 isn’t even out yet, but already we have signs of an even more hardcore version which will likely arrive later in the life cycle. This particular prototype is rocking what appears to be an extra set of air vents hiding underneath the swirly camouflage applied on the front bumper. The role of the additional vents is to provide extra cooling for the brakes. In addition, the flared fenders represent the most obvious change compared to a ‘regular’ E63.
What’s really intriguing about the high-performance wagon is the significantly increased ground clearance. Perhaps Mercedes-AMG was testing the prototype’s suspension, unless it plans to AMG-ify the upcoming E Class All Terrain which would be quite interesting, to say the least. There was a rumor a while ago about an Audi RS6 allroad, but it didn’t happen, so Mercedes could be the first to do it.
If we are dealing with a more brutal version of the already menacing E63 Estate, one might be tempted to say it will bear the 'Black Series’ name which Mercedes-AMG has already promised it will return, eventually. If not, the version set to be slotted above the E63 S could get a different suffix, such as ‘R’ like the Mercedes-AMG GT R.
Recent spy photos have shown the smaller C63 Estate is also about to get the same treatment for a more intense version, proving Mercedes-AMG is preparing to extend its portfolio of super-fast haulers.
Meanwhile, the standard E63 is heading to the Paris Motor Show scheduled to open its doors at the beginning of October. Both the standard model and the ‘S’ will make use of a biturbo 4.0-liter V8 which according to a leaked specs sheet will deliver 563 horsepower (420 kilowatts) and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters) of torque in the former and 604 hp (450 kW) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) in the latter. The quickest of the bunch will be the sedan in ‘S’ guise which will reach 62 mph (100 kph) in only three and a half seconds before hitting an electronically-capped 155 mph (250 kph).
All E63s will be offered exclusively with an all-wheel-drive arrangement because demand for tail-happy versions has decreased to below 10 percent of total orders, so Mercedes-AMG is killing the RWD model for the new generation.
Look for official images of the E63 to arrive in the following weeks to create more buzz until the public debut in Paris. Sales should kick off either by the year’s end or early 2017.
