The flared fenders suggest a more powerful the drivetrain
Evidence is piling up that Mercedes-AMG is developing an even hotter version of the E63 Estate, which revive might the Black Series name. A new spy video even shows the brawny vehicle in motion.
The massive fender flares are the biggest hints of something special about this wagon, and the bulging parts let AMG fit even wider tires underneath. A brief glimpse of the front also provides a good look at what appears to be an additional intake in the front fascia for cooling the brakes. There are lots of E63 sedan and estate spy photos and video already available, but only one other longroof has these details.
A leaked document hinted the E63 S would have 612 horsepower (456 kilowatts) from its 4.0-liter biturbo V8 and use a nine-speed automatic with all-wheel drive. A Black Series would likely make even more power but might keep the other drivetrain elements the same.
Mercedes hasn’t officially confirmed a new Black Series, and the automaker hasn’t used the moniker for a few years. Last year, AMG boss Tobias Moers promised a return for the name someday, but a new model needed to be "at the top of the hill" to earn the title again, he said. An ultra-high-performance wagon might fit his criteria.
Assuming this camouflaged vehicle is Mercedes’ ultimate performance station wagon, you probably have some time to save for it. The E63 sedan reportedly debuts in time for the Paris Motor Show in October. The standard E63 Estate would follow a few months later. This version would likely arrive even further down the road. We can’t wait for Mercedes to unveil the particulars about this potentially very special model.
