That sound you just heard was a collective gasp from Facebook users worldwide. Mercedes-Benz took to the social media site to provide our first glimpse at a coupe from ultra-luxury division Maybach. The as-yet unnamed Mercedes-Maybach coupe looks to be a breathtaking piece of rolling sculpture.

“Hot & cool - almost 6 metres [19.7 feet] of ultimate luxury,” is all the automaker has said of its forthcoming car so far. But the teaser photo offers a few more hints, showing a remarkably long and elegant coupe, with an achingly long hood, a teardrop-shaped cabin, and a tail that plunges downward in dramatic fashion. The entire beltline is curved, and huge spears of chrome break up the profile view. From what we can see so far, it’s a stunning machine.

As to the car’s underpinnings, the Maybach could be based on a stretched and upgraded Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe – after all, the existing Maybach S600 is based on the S-Class sedan. Either way, a car with bodywork that drips beauty like this one is sure to have all the requisite upgrades to take on the best ultra-luxury coupes. Expect outstanding materials and top-tier equipment throughout, all the better to take on the likes Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, and Bentley.

The Mercedes-Maybach coupe will make its public debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, a star-studded event well suited to the type of elegant and impressive vehicle this teaser foretells. Stay tuned for full photos of the car next week.
