The sedan could use a biturbo V6.
Earlier this year, Hyundai's new Genesis luxury brand showed a performance concept called the G80 Sport at the Busan Motor Show. A fresh batch of spy photos indicate the hotter luxury sedan is on the way, and it's undergoing testing in the desert.
Like the G80 Sport concept, this test car wears a mesh grille and sporty front fascia. At the back, quad exhausts poke out from a more aggressive bumper. A lower suspension is evident here, too. Beyond these aesthetic tweaks, Hyundai probably doesn't need so much camouflage for the sedan's performance model because the design looks very similar to the standard G80.
The G80 Sport reportedly uses the biturbo 3.3-liter V6 from the larger G90 sedan. In stock trim, this engine makes 365 horsepower (272 kilowatts) and 376 pound-feet (510 Newton-meters) of torque. However, tuning by Hyundai's high-performance N division allegedly could take the hotter version's output as high as 480 hp (357.9 kW). If that rating actually happens, it would make the G80 Sport more powerful than the 396-hp (295.3 kW) Mercedes-AMG E43. However, the upcoming E63 could pack around 600 hp (447.4 kW), according to rumors.
We expect the G80 Sport to arrive sometime next year as a performance entry in the fresh Genesis lineup.
