They are limited to just 2,002 copies.
There aren’t many reasons to send a letter through the mail these days, but these BMW 02 stamps, which commemorate the model family's 50th anniversary, might be a good excuse to make a pen pal in Germany. Act fast, though, because appropriately only 2,002 sets are available.
BMW’s 02 series, including the 1502, 1602, 1802, and especially the 2002, were the direct predecessors to the brand’s sporty versions of the 3 Series. There were very popular among enthusiasts of the day and were a common sight on racetracks in Europe and the United States, too. BMW even made its early foray into turbocharging with the famous 2002 Turbo.
To celebrate the model’s legacy, French artist BOD created this cheeky cartoon of a 2002 on two wheels. A small sign at the bottom shows the driver is on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The message underneath translates to "02 since 1966."
Each set comes in a folded card with a larger version of the cartoon on the outside. The interior features the 02 logo and two 0.70-euro stamps, which are valid through Deutsche Post. The Website 99RodeoDrive commissioned the design.
For Germans, the stamps are available from the Website 99RodeoDrive for 10 euro, including shipping. For everyone else, the site 69PitStop, which appears to be exactly the same, also has them for 10 euro ($11) with free international shipping.
The BMW 2002 Hommage concept at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este also commemorated the model’s birthday this year. Unfortunately, the vehicle looked more like a highly modified 2 Series than a celebration of the 02’s angular silhouette.
