Honda conceived the NSX as a sports car that challenged the best that Europe had to offer, and it was a revelation in the class upon introduction in 1990. Five years later, the competitors were starting to rise to the challenge. For example, Ferrari replaced the 348 with the 355 in that time, but Honda tried to keep up with the hardcore NSX-R. This interesting time period is the setting for this 1,000-meter (0.62-mile) drag race from Japan's Best Motoring.
We won't spoil the results, but it's a fascinating race. Best Motoring also shows where the pair are at 400 meters (roughly a quarter mile), and they're practically side by side with only about three hundredths of a second separating them. There's a clear winner at the end of the course, though.
The race starts a minute into the clip, but the first 60 seconds are worth checking out for a close look at the NSX-R. Best Motoring shows off the yellow coupe in detail and includes some jazz to accompany it. After the Honda and Ferrari, the video follows up with another drag race between a tuned Nissan Skyline GT-R and a modified Toyota Supra. It's a great chance to watch two of Japan's famous sports cars of the era.
