The 2017 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS - or 991.2 facelift model, if you prefer - has been spotted in near-production-spec guise.Previous spy shots (below) showed a matt black roll hoop and a different tailpipe layout to what we see here.

As always with all 911 GTS models, the spy shots show a styling package halfway between a 4S and a Turbo. It's slightly more aggressive than the 4S, but not quite as broad-shouldered as the Turbo, as you can see here.

The Targa 4 GTS is expected to be powered by a more powerful version of the twin-turbo, 3.0-litre, flat-six motor found lower down the 911 range. No GTS versions of the 991.2-generation 911 have been launched yet, so we can only speculate how much power it will have. But bear in mind that in 'S' tune, the engine produces 420 horsepower. The previous GTS made 430 HP and 324 pound-feet of torque from its naturally-aspirated, 3.8-litre, flat-six.

GTS models get a raft of running gear upgrades as well, not that anyone buys the Targa to go canyon-carving. With the extra weight of its show-stopping roof mechanism, it's really the 911 for people who prefer to cruise Main Street.
