The 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 is on the way later this year with around 600 horsepower, and the German tuners at Posaidon are saying goodbye to the previous version in a spectacular way. The firm's RS850+ pushes the 5.5-liter biturbo V8 to an astounding 1,020 horsepower and 1,033 pound-feet (1,400 Newton-meters) of torque. The company claims that the result of its work is the most powerful street legal Mercedes ever.

Creating this beast requires extensive work to the E-Class. Posaidon's technicians replace all the major engine internals, and they also beef up the gearbox to handle the copious torque. The more robust components can manage the extra power that comes from adding larger turbos to the powerplant. A re-mapped ECU takes further advantage of the changes.

The result of this work is an all-wheel drive sedan that can hit 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in just 2.8 seconds. The company limits the top speed to 218 mph (368 kph) because the tires can't take any more. Don't worry about stopping from such a high velocity because the tuner fits carbon-ceramic 16.5-inch (420-millimeter) brakes with six-piston calipers in front and 14.2-inch (360-mm) four-piston parts at the rear.

Despite still having four doors, the RS850+ is now a two-seater because Posaidon saves weight by stripping out the rear seat and door trim. The company also replaces the front seats with the lightweight units from the C63 AMG Black Series. On the outside, carbon fiber components for the hood, bumper, mirror caps, and rear diffuser take more heft off the scales.

We aren't sure how many people are shopping for a two-seat E-Class, but we applaud Posaidon's work on this project. It's a great way to say goodbye to this model on the eve of the new one's arrival.

POSAIDON E63 RS850+ based on the Mercedes-AMG E63

POSAIDON E63 RS850+ with 1,020 hp and 1,400 Nm!

The legendary Bugatti Veyron needs no less than 16-cylinders, four
turbochargers, and an engine capacity of 8.0 litres to generate 1,001 hp.
Even the extremely rare LaFerrari requires an electric motor married to its classic
V12 motor for a system output of 963 hp.

Yet both these hypercars fall short of the earth shifting power of the POSAIDON
RS850+. Based on the Mercedes-AMG E63 4Matic four-door saloon, the RS850+
takes the crown as the most powerful street-legal Mercedes of all time with an
incredible 1,020 hp and 1,400 Nm of torque.

POSAIDON literally had to upgrade and re-engineer all the major engine
components, starting with a pair of larger turbochargers and more efficient
intercoolers.

Ram intake air was augmented with a bespoke carbon-fibre encased intake
system incorporating a large free-flow conical air filter. Colder competition spark
plugs are used and a handmade turbo-back exhaust system lead to a valve
control rear silencer. Finally, the ECU was custom mapped to make full use of the
new hardware.

The gearbox was uprated to cope with the onslaught of the 1,400 Nm of torque,
and POSAIDON fitted specially calibrated limited slip differentials to the front and
rear axles of this 4Matic-equipped car.

As the big E63 AMG is anything but light, the POSAIDON engineers tried to shed
unnecessary kilos wherever possible. To this end, the rear seat and rear door
trims were removed, and POSAIDON replaced the front seats with the figure
hugging race style lightweight seats from the C63 Black Series model, saving a
further 40 kg. Finally, POSAIDON applied their Blitzer update to the Comand
system.

Low weight costs money, but ultra-light and strong carbon-fibre parts were the
only way forward and are used for the bonnet, front bumper, rear diffuser and
spoiler, mirror caps and tailpipe trims. To facilitate maximum airflow to the big
radiator, the factory grille was replaced with wire mesh.

Thanks to all-wheel-drive, the POSAIDON RS850+ effectively translates its
humungous power to the tarmac, hitting 100km/h from rest in just 2.8 seconds. Its
theoretical top speed of 368 km/h is electronically limited to 350 km/h due to the
safe load parameters of the tyres.

Sized 9.5x20-inch ET37 with 255/30R20 tyres in front, and 11.0x20-inch ET45
with 295/25R20 at the rear, the exclusive ADV.1 alloy wheels look good filling the
wheel arches.

The suspension is uprated with fully adjustable coil-overs, while the stopping
arrangements are looked after by a high-performance carbon-ceramic brake
system. This uses 420 x 40mm vented discs clamped by six-pot callipers in front,
and 360 x 32-mm vented discs with four-pot callipers at the rear.
