Online endurance race will be streamed on Twitch this weekend.

With the famous 24-hour Le Mans endurance race right around the corner, Audi of America has decided to organize a similar event in the gaming world. This weekend in downtown San Francisco, 12 teams of professional gamers and the finalists from the Audi 24 Hours of Le Forza Contest will race each other in Turn 10 Studios’ Forza Motorsport 6 video game exclusive on the Xbox One.

To make it feel more like the real deal, gamers are going to wear full racing suits and helmets during the digital endurance race which will be streamed on Twitch for everyone to enjoy. The first team to cross the virtual finish line after 24 hours of racing in Forza 6 will win a trip to Sonoma, California for a real-world Audi sports car experience.

Second place team will be awarded with a trip to Austin, Texas in September to attend the 2016 Lone Star Le Mans race. A shiny new Xbox One video game console bundled with a copy of Forza Motorsport 6 will be given to team that will finish in third place.

Getting back to the real world, Audi Sport will attempt to score its 14th overall victory this weekend during the 84th edition of Le Mans, but it will have to face some stiff competition coming from Porsche which dominated the first qualifying session.

We’re going to have a lot of Le Mans content in the coming days, including a live text during the entire race courtesy of our colleagues at Motorsport.com.

  • 12 teams of professional gamers and Audi fans will compete in a 24-hour Forza Motorsport endurance race on Twitch, a leading social platform for gaming
  • The “Audi 24 Hours of Le Forza” event will be held in downtown San Francisco and live-streamed through Twitch’s homepage
  • The virtual race will pay homage to one of the oldest active sports car races in endurance racing

This weekend, Audi of America will host the first 24-hour online endurance race on Forza MotorSport 6 using the social platform Twitch, the largest streaming site for online gaming, which garners over 100 million visitors per month.

While the Audi Sport teams battle for a 14th overall victory at the 24-hour endurance race being held in France, 12 teams of professional gamers and the finalists from the Audi 24 Hours of Le Forza Contest will compete in a 24-hour virtual race at an Audi-hosted event in downtown San Francisco. Used as a simulator by professional drivers around the world, Forza MotorSport 6 allows gamers to drive LMP1 vehicles that are near-replicas of the real racecars, on virtual tracks that also resemble their real-world counterparts.

To further pay tribute to the endurance race as it unfolds on the iconic French road course, gamers will wear full racing suits and helmets, drive the same demanding shifts and experience similar in-game weather as the conditions abroad.

Named “Audi 24 Hours of Le Forza,” the game will be live-streamed through Twitch’s homepage and will be refereed by distinguished gaming and motorsports authorities, including Audi Sportscar Brand Ambassador, Dion von Moltke. Not only can racing and gaming fans alike view the event via the live stream online, but they can also interact directly with the hosts and racing teams via the Twitch chat feature.

"I am thrilled to be a part of the first 24-hour online endurance race on Forza MotorSport 6,” said Dion von Moltke, Audi Sportscar Brand Ambassador. “Le Mans is the pinnacle event on Audi’s endurance racing calendar this year, and if I can’t be on the racetrack this weekend, this is the next best thing.”

The winning team of finalists from the Audi 24 Hours of Le Forza will be awarded a grand prize trip to Sonoma, California, for the opportunity to participate in a real-world Audi sports car experience. The second place team will be awarded a trip to Austin, Texas, in September for the 2016 Lone Star Le Mans race, and the third place team will be awarded an Xbox One and a copy of the Forza MotorSport 6 game.

“Audi continues to lead in social media firsts, and as the first brand to bring the world of endurance racing to the massive gaming audience in the US, this is, once again, no exception,” said Loren Angelo, Director of Marketing, Audi of America. “By hosting the Audi 24 Hours of Le Forza, we can engage more fans to follow Audi on the racetrack, both abroad and here at home, in a way they never have before, through the use of this exciting and innovative social platform, Twitch.”
