The coupe hasn’t exactly shied away from our spy photographers’ cameras, but now we’ve got our first look at the next Bentley Continental GT convertible. Most likely to roll out in 2018, the convertible will match up pretty closely with the coupe versions we’ve already spotted.

As we saw on coupes, the next Bentley Continental GT convertible will adopt some styling cues from the company’s EXP Speed 6 concept. Look for a sleeker nose with swept-back lighting, a new grille design, and rear wider haunches. Yet the most significant changes are the ones you can’t see. By switching to Volkswagen Group’s MSB modular platform, which will also be used for the next Porsche Panamera, the Bentley Conti GT and GT convertible should shed several hundred pounds of mass.

Powertrain options at launch should comprise a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 and a 6.0-liter biturbo V12, and some reports suggest there’s a possibility that one of the Panamera’s plug-in hybrid powertrains will also be offered.

Expect to see the new Bentley Continental GT next year, with the convertible arriving as much as a year later.
