Pennzoil is following up its fantastic Joyride Circuit video (below) by taking things off-road in the new Joyride Baja. Ace driver Rhys Millen is still behind the wheel this time but he swaps out the previous Ferrari 488 GTB for a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. There’s still lots of high-speed action in the clip but rather than happening at track in Spain, Millen shows what he can do in Mexico’s Baja Desert.
Millen highlights the different topography that makes driving off-road in the desert so exciting. One moment he’s flat out across some salt flats, and then he’s catching air over sand dunes. Eventually, Millen even arrives at a mountain of loose rocks. His Jeep his up to the challenge, though, and it climbs up the slippery grade with no problems. The Rubicon uses the same 3.6-liter V6 as other Wranglers, but it has locking front and rear differentials and an especially low gear ratio to let the Jeep crawl with ease.
Pennzoil promises more clips in the Joyride series are on the way. After showing Millen on the track and off-road, we think the oil company should take advantage of his drifting skills. It would be exciting to see Millen behind the wheel of a highly tuned Mazda RX-7 or Toyota Supra and kick out the tail on a Japanese mountain road.
