There are very few battery electric estates currently available to buy, all of which are in China, but one is going to make its way to Europe where it will be an utterly unique proposition. The Roewe Ei5 will be sold in the United Kingdom as the MG 5 beginning Q4 2020, where it will become the brand’s second electric offering, alongside the ZS EV.

In terms of size, the Ei5 is roughly the same size as a Ford Focus estate, although it is a bit shorter overall. If it ends up being sold in the UK in the same spec it’s being sold in China, then it will get a 52.5 kWh battery pack that’s good for a maximum WLTP range of 214 miles / 344 km.

According to Autocar, the UK version could have a more powerful 141 bhp motor, up from the Chinese spec Ei5’s 114 bhp. Top speed will probably stay the same 93 mph / 150 km/h.

Pricing will also be significantly higher than in China where the Ei 5 sells for 130,800 yuan (roughly £15,000). In the UK, the source estimates that it could sell for closer to £25,495 and this will be its price with the local government grants and incentives factored in.

After the MG 5 joins the range, another model will be added, although this one is a PHEV, not a full EV - it's called the MG eHS, it has a 16.6 kWh battery pack, 47 miles (76 km) of all-electric range NEDC and a relatively brisk sprint time to 100 km/h / 62 mph of 5.8 seconds.
