First-generation Boxsters can get an upgrade, too.
There’s no denying that Porsche has some of the most passionate auto fans in the world. Credit for that legacy certainly falls to the 911 – these owners love their cars and they love to drive them, be it a new 911 Turbo S or a classic air-cooled model from decades past. A few years back, Porsche Classic offered a neat upgrade for classic 911 owners in the form of a single-din infotainment system, bringing fresh tech to old classics.
Now, Porsche Classic has updated that design and created a super-sized expansion with a new double-din unit. Called Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM), the newest offerings bring more tech options to old models with a single-din space in the dash, or straight-up modern tech to "young classics" starting with the 996 generation that have double-din systems. Regardless of the size, both systems offer Apple CarPlay, DAB +, and Bluetooth connectivity as well as navigation features.

The larger double-din unit is called PCCM Plus. It’s designed to be a plug-and-play system that works with existing controls in the car, while also offering touchscreen functionality through a 7-inch screen. The upgraded technology for PCCM Plus also means those young classics drivers can take advantage of Porsche’s latest navigation systems with Porsche points-of-interest and route guidance. It’s not just for the 911 either – Porsche says this unit will work in the first-generation Boxster as well.
The upgraded single-din design for older Porsches isn't quite as capable, but it still offers impressive capability for its size. In addition to navigation functions, the new PCCM offers DAB + and Apple CarPlay capability as well as a 3.5-inch touch-sensitive display. Primary functions are controlled through rotary knobs and integrated buttons, with the overall design mimicking classic Porsche stereo systems as closely as possible.
The upgraded PCCM single-din unit is now available at a cost of €1,439.89 (approx. £1,255). The larger double-din PCCM Plus model sells for €1,606.51 (£1,400). Both are available at Porsche centres or online in the Porsche Classic shop.
In the style of the times: Porsche Classic Communication Management
Modern connectivity for timeless classic cars: the new Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM) opens up the digital world to the brand's vintage and young classic cars.
The PCCM was developed in two variants and can exactly replace the original built-in units with 1-DIN or 2-DIN dimensions. Both infotainment systems offer a high-resolution touchscreen and modern functions such as DAB+ and Apple CarPlay as well onboard navigation. The new PCCM systems can be ordered via the Porsche Classic online shop or through the Porsche Centre.
The Porsche Classic Communication Management is a further development of the previous radio navigation system for classic Porsche sports cars. Like this system, the new PCCM fits exactly in the 1-DIN slot which was standard in sports cars for many decades. The PCCM is operated via two rotary knobs, six integrated buttons and a touch-sensitive 3.5-inch display. Like the predecessor model, it includes a navigation function with “Point of Interest” search in an enhanced version. Route guidance optionally takes place as a simple arrow representation in a 2D or 3D view. The corresponding map material is provided on a separate SD card, which can also be ordered in the Porsche Classic online shop or through a Porsche centre.
State-of-the-art digital technology: DAB+, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth
The PCCM can now also receive digital radio stations with DAB+. A further highlight for this device class is integration of Apple CarPlay. For the first time, all users of an Apple iPhone as from version 5 can now also use their iPhone apps for media playback, navigation and telephony while driving. Media playback is also possible via an SD card, USB, AUX and Bluetooth®. The PCCM blends harmoniously into the dashboard of Porsche classic cars thanks to the black surface finish and the shape of the knobs. It features the Porsche logo and is suitable for the sports car generations between the first 911 models of the 1960s and the last 911 with air cooling from the start of the 1990s (993 model series). Use in earlier front- and mid-engine models is also possible.
PCCM Plus: modern successor of the first-generation PCM
911 models of the 996 generation and Boxster models of the 986 generation which were built in the 1990s could already be optionally equipped with a Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system in 2-DIN format. For these sports cars, Porsche Classic has developed the Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus (PCCM Plus) system, which features a high-resolution 7-inch touchscreen with optimised display. The haptic and visual design of the PCCM Plus is based on the adjacent components such as air vents or pushbutton switches. The PCCM Plus can thus be integrated seamlessly into the ambience of the classic sports cars. The peripheral components already installed in the vehicle such as amplifier, loudspeakers or antenna can still be used. The navigation displays in the instrument cluster are also still supported.
Operation via touchscreen according to current standard
Operation via the touchscreen and buttons takes place largely in accordance with the intuitive high standard usual in Porsche vehicles today. This means that the latest onboard navigation system with Porsche-specific Points of Interest (POI) is also available to the driver. Route guidance takes place in a 2D or 3D view. Map data and later updates can be used via a separate SD card and ordered from the Porsche Centre in the same way as for the PCCM. Media playback is possible via SD card, USB stick, AUX and Bluetooth. Like the PCCM, the PCCM Plus also offers an interface to Apple CarPlay. In addition, the new 2-DIN unit is also compatible with GOOGLE® Android Auto.
The new Porsche Classic Communication Management system is available including map material for 1,439.89 euros (PCCM) or 1,606.51 euros (PCCM Plus) including VAT in the Porsche centres or via the Porsche Classic online shop. Installation in a Porsche centre is recommended.
