The Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and Boxster GTS 4.0 arrive to tempt enthusiasts by packing a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six engine and exclusively running through a six-speed manual gearbox. If the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Boxster Spyder are too extreme or expensive for your tastes, then this pair might be the ultimate Porsche to fulfil a person's driving desires.

The 4.0-litre flat-six in these models produces 394 bhp (294 kilowatts) and 309 pound-feet (419 Newton-metres) of torque. The redline is at 7,800 rpm. For comparison, the version of this mill in the Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder produces 414 bhp (309 kW) and 309 lb-ft, meaning that 718 GTS 4.0 buyers give up just 20 bhp (15 kW) versus the range-topping models.

According to Porsche, the tune of the 4.0-litre engine in the new 718 GTS 4.0 models can get the vehicles to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometres per hour) in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 182 mph (293 kph). This is just a blink-of-an-eye slower than the Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder that require 4.2 seconds to reach 60 mph.

The 718 GTS 4.0 models also come with a wide array of performance-oriented standard features. The Porsche Active Suspension Management system drops the ride height by 0.79 inches (20 millimetres) in comparison to the standard variants of these models. They also boast Porsche Torque Vectoring with a mechanical limited-slip differential. The front brakes now measure 13.78 inches (350 millimetres) and 12.99 inches (330 millimetres) are the rear. Ceramic-composite brake discs are also an option.

The unique exterior touches for these models include a black front lip spoiler, fascia, and revised lower bumper design. The vehicles ride on 20-inch wheels with a satin black finish.

Inside, the 718 GTS 4.0 gets Porsche's Sport Seats Plus. Black Alcantara covers the centre sections of the chairs, in addition to the steering wheel, centre console, gearshift, and door panels. For the Cayman, Alcantara is on the A-pillars and headliner, too.

The 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 go on sale today in the United Kingdom with first deliveries in March. Starting prices are £64,088.00 and £65,949.00 RRP including VAT, respectively.

New Porsche 718 GTS 4.0 - driving pleasure for all the senses

Great Britain. The new Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 announced today combine a flat-six cylinder ‘boxer’ engine with a manual six-speed transmission and sports exhaust system; the result is a characteristically emotive power delivery and a focused driving experience, both long standing Porsche attributes.

The new two-seater models are powered by a 400 PS (294 kW) four-litre six-cylinder engine, similar to that used in the 718 Spyder and the 718 Cayman GT4. But where the GT4 represents the entry-level GT street car from Porsche with a breadth of ability suited to the track, the latest 718 GTS 4.0 models place particular emphasis on everyday driving pleasure for all the senses.

Nevertheless, the new two-door, two-seat sports cars can achieve the sprint from 0- 62 mph in 4.5 seconds, and where permitted accelerate on to a top speed of 182 mph. The rarefied combination of two seats, three pedals and six cylinders makes the new GTS 4.0 models great companions for any journey.

The 718 GTS 4.0 models balance their dynamic handling responses and everyday comfort via Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sports suspension, featuring a 20 mm lower ride height. Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanical limited slip rear differential, the Sport Chrono package with Porsche Active Drivetrain Mounts (PADM) and upgraded Porsche Track Precision App also further underline the athletic ability.

Naturally, the GTS engine also impresses with its superior power reserves and immediate throttle responses. It effortlessly revs to 7,800 rpm and, thanks to the standard sports exhaust system, also amplifies the rich aural signature of the flat-six engine. The 718 GTS 4.0 models adopt the twin tailpipe sports exhaust system with integrated gasoline particulate filter from the 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4. Its saddle-type design sits snugly behind a distinctive contrasting black rear lower section of the body that was specially developed for the GTS models.

In the Porsche tradition, the powerful four-litre engine is characterised by exceptional efficiency. This is delivered by innovative technical features such as adaptive cylinder control that alternately switches off one of the two cylinder banks at low engine load, direct fuel injection with precise piezo injectors and a variable intake system. As a consequence, the WLTP Combined fuel economy of both derivatives is 25.9 mpg (10.8 l/100 km), and the NEDC equivalent to Combined CO2 emissions is 246 g/km.

The 718 GTS 4.0 models ride on 20-inch diameter light-alloy wheels in black, wrapped in high-performance tyres (235/35 ZR 20 at the front and 265/35 ZR 20 at the rear). The enhanced braking system features cross-drilled discs and red calipers. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is available as an option.

As is the trademark of Porsche GTS derivatives, dark contrasting details reflect the particularly sporting credentials and differentiate the spoiler lip, the air intake of the Sport Design front apron, the tinted front and rear light lenses and the bespoke lower rear bumper.

Inside the cockpit, dark Alcantara® creates a classic sporting, elegant ambience. This tactile material features on the centre panels of the standard Sport Seats Plus, as well as the steering wheel rim, centre console, gear lever and armrests on both doors. In the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, it also covers the A-pillars and the roof lining.

The optional GTS interior package adds the option of further personalisation, with the contrasting colour choice of either Carmine Red or Crayon. This accentuates the rev counter, seat belts, all decorative seams including the embroidered GTS emblem in the headrests and the Porsche lettering on the floor mats with black borders. The trim elements as well as the centre console trim are made of carbon.

Included in combination with the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) satellite navigation system is the Sport Chrono package, including the aforementioned Track Precision App. This smartphone app, which originates from motorsport, shows performance-related data on the PCM display while in circuit use and records it for later analysis.

The new models are on sale today and arrivals in UK Porsche Centres begin from March 2020. The 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 is priced from £64,088.00 RRP inc VAT, and the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 is priced from £65,949.00 RRP inc VAT.

Customers are also invited to explore the potential of their new car, and further develop their own skills behind the wheel, by participating in a bespoke driving experience around the unique tracks at the Porsche Experience Centre, Silverstone.
