Thinking about technology in Lamborghinis generally makes you consider how the company can improve its supercars' performance, but an upcoming upgrade makes the Huracan Evo easier to live with because the model now boasts Amazon Alexa support. Check out the company's promo video for it. The first car with this tech is on display at the Consumer Electronics Show.

The clip shows off Alexa's ability to alter the colour of the interior ambient lighting, change the climate control settings, open the garage door, select playlists, tweak the HVAC settings, find nearby points of interest, and more. Alexa will be an option on the Huracan Evo in both all-wheel drive and rear-drive. The company won't yet disclose the price of adding the technology.

Lambo recently gave the Huracan Evo a more traditional upgrade by announcing a rear-wheel-drive version of the supercar. It boasts the familiar 5.2-litre V10 but makes 602 bhp (449 kilowatts) and 413 pound-feet (560 Newton-metres) of torque in this application, versus 630 bhp (470 kW) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) for the existing all-wheel-drive variant. All of this output now goes to the back axle. A dynamic steering system and specially tuned traction control system make the power more manageable.

The rear-drive model can reach 62 miles per hour (100 kilometres per hour) in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 203 mph (326 kph). Sales begin this spring for a base price of £137,000 in the UK, in comparison to £165,256 for the AWD coupe.

Don't be surprised if a Spyder variant of the rear-drive model eventually joins the lineup, too. It would be a natural addition because the roofless model already exists with all-wheel drive.

Automobili Lamborghini integrates Amazon Alexa into Huracán EVO range

Sant’Agata Bolognese/Las Vegas, 6 January 2020 –

Automobili Lamborghini incorporates Alexa in its Huracán EVO range in 2020, enhancing its super sports car driving experience with the cloud-based voice service from Amazon. The first Huracán EVO equipped with Alexa is on display at the global stage for innovation, the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, from January 7-10, 2020.

In the Huracán EVO, Lamborghini introduced a connected infotainment system with digital services for the first time on a super sports car. It will be the first car manufacturer to deliver in-car control via Amazon Alexa, allowing drivers to adjust functions such as climate, interior lighting and seat heating with a simple voice command, leaving the driver to focus on the road ahead. Alexa will even be integrated into the LDVI dynamic set-up (Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata) on the four-wheel drive EVO, taking the Huracán EVO to a new level of voice-activation capabilities: place calls, get directions, play music and audiobooks, check news and weather, and more – all you have to do is ask!

The Alexa integration also connects Lamborghini owners to the growing number of connected devices that work with Alexa. With a simple voice interaction, drivers in the Huracán EVO can control everything from entry gates to thermostats and lights, directly from the vehicle. The first step in a strategic collaboration with Amazon, the specially enhanced Human Machine Interface (HMI) system will allow continuous updating of Alexa’s functionality within Lamborghini models, and paves the way for future cooperation between the two companies: both companies are working to develop further connectivity innovations and integration with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

“The Huracán EVO is an outstanding driver’s car, and connectivity enables our customers to focus on the driving, thus enhancing their Lamborghini experience,” says Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini. “Lamborghini is a future shaper, and this is the first time an automaker will deliver in-cabin car control through Amazon Alexa to bring together car controls as well as smart commands and Alexa’s standard capabilities.”

“Our vision is for Alexa to become a natural, intuitive part of the driving experience, and Lamborghini has embraced that by integrating Alexa directly into its onboard infotainment systems,” adds Ned Curic, Vice President of Alexa Auto at Amazon. “The integration will enable Lamborghini owners to enjoy the convenience of an intelligent voice service while focusing on the joy of the Lamborghini driving experience, and we expect it to set a new standard for in-car voice experiences when it ships this year.”

The V10 Huracán EVO Coupé and Spyder, launched in 2019, is Lamborghini’s latest generation of the four- wheel drive super sports car model. With a new design for improved aerodynamics it is the first Lamborghini with predictive logic on vehicle dynamics control and features a fully-integrated Lamborghini Vehicle Dynamics Control System combined with all-wheel drive, and all-wheel steering, for redefined parameters of responsiveness, agility and easiness to drive. The 5.2 liter V10 naturally aspirated engine from the Huracán Performante delivers 640 hp (470 kW) at 8,000 rpm with 600 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. With a dry weight of 1,422 kg the Huracán EVO reaches a weight-to-power ratio of 2.22 kg/hp, accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and from 0-200 km/h in 9.0 seconds. Braking from 100 km/h to 0 is achieved in just 31.9 m, with a top speed of more than 325 km/h.

A rear-wheel drive (RWD) Huracán EVO Coupé was announced in January 2020, offering a highly emotive, purist, fun-to-drive experience. First deliveries of the Huracán EVO RWD will commence in spring 2020. The Alexa option will be available during the course of 2020 on the whole Huracán EVO family, including RWD.
