Porsche is expanding its Macan lineup with the 2020 Macan GTS that will slot between the Macan S and Macan Turbo. Porsche has offered the trim before, but the updated model packs more power than its predecessor. Along with the upgraded powertrain comes enhanced visual cues and upgraded interior bits.

The 2020 Macan GTS uses a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 that produces 375 bhp (280 kilowatts), 20 bhp (15 kW) more than the last Macan GTS. The mill makes 384 pound-feet (520 Newton-metres) of torque with power routing through Porsche’s PDK dual-clutch gearbox. Porsche claims the Macan GTS can sprint to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometres per hour) in 4.7 seconds, though that drops to 4.5 seconds when the model is equipped with Porsche’s Sport Chrono package. The top speed is 162 mph (260 kph).

Standard features include Porsche’s adaptive air suspension, 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels, Porsche’s Sport Exhaust, and cast iron brakes, though Porsche Surface Coated Brakes and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes are options.

New GTS model from Porsche: the sportiest Macan

Great Britain. Porsche completes the Macan series with the most driver-focused variant within the model line. The new Macan GTS launches with a powerful engine, performance-oriented chassis, distinctive design and enhanced equipment. The 2.9–litre V6 biturbo engine delivers 280 kW (380 PS) – an increase of 15 kW (20 PS) compared with its predecessor. Combined with the revised PDK dual-clutch transmission and the optional Sport Chrono package, the Macan GTS accelerates from zero to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds, three tenths faster than before. It has a top speed of 162 mph.

The newest variant in the compact SUV range wears the GTS badge, an abbreviation of ‘Gran Turismo Sport’, a name attributed specifically to models focusing on outstanding driving dynamics. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) damping control system has been specially tuned. The chassis has been lowered by 15 millimetres for greater cornering dynamics. The chassis can be lowered a further 10 millimetres with optional adaptive air suspension. Combined with the standard 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels and the generously-sized cast iron brakes (360 x 36 millimetres at the front, 330 x 22 millimetres at the rear), the new Macan GTS impresses with the agility and responsiveness of a sports car. As an option, deceleration can be improved further by means of the Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) with tungsten carbide coating or the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB).

Acoustically, the standard sports exhaust system specifically adapted to the GTS accentuates the driving pleasure in the new Macan GTS. The sound of the 2.9-litre V6 engine is at the heart of the experience. Its central turbo layout, with two turbochargers arranged in the inner V of the engine, allows direct responsiveness. The maximum torque of 520 Nm (plus 20 Nm) is available over a wide range from 1,750 to 5,000 rpm. The sportiest Macan model returns up to 25.0 mpg according to WLTP.1)

The LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and the three-dimensional rear lights with LED light bar are also darkened. The LED headlights can be ordered optionally with PDLS Plus. Further emphasising the high-performance appearance are the lowered chassis, 20 - inch RS Spyder Design wheels in satin-gloss black, red brake calipers and trim strips in high-gloss black. The rear diffuser and tailpipes are also painted in black as part of the standard sports exhaust system.
