Sporty 4x4 is the first model from Seat's newly-minted Cupra sub-brand.
The new Cupra Ateca, the first car to be launched by Seat’s sporting sub-brand, has gone on sale in the UK, priced at just under £36,000.
Based on the standard Seat Ateca family SUV, the Cupra uses much the same 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine you’ll find in a VW Golf R. With 296 bhp at the disposal of your right foot, the fast 4x4 will manage 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 153 mph.
The chassis has been tweaked, too, with Dynamic Chassis Control giving the driver the option of setting up the car to suit his or her needs. Comfort, Sport, Snow, Off-Road and Cupra modes are all available at the touch of a button, while an ‘Individual’ setting allows the driver to pick and choose different aspects of these configurations.
All that, along with a seven-speed automatic gearbox, comes included in the £35,900 starting price, along with a range of styling tweaks that set the Cupra apart from the standard Ateca.
Gloss black details feature prominently, adorning the window frames, roof rails and side mouldings, while copper-coloured Cupra logos stand proudly on the grille and tailgate. Clues to the car’s performance include black-painted brake callipers and the four exhaust pipes peeping out from the rear bumper.
Inside, the car gets Alcantara upholstery on the seats and door panels, while copper-coloured contrast stitching also features heavily.
As standard, 19-inch diamond-cut two-tone alloy wheels will be fitted, along with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 360-degree top-down view parking camera and two-zone climate control. Automatic lights and wipers are included, too, as is cruise control.
You also get a servicing scheme included, with the first three scheduled services, a brake fluid change, European roadside assistance and the first replacement wiper blades, pollen filter and front brake pads all paid for.
And if that wasn’t enough, Cupra is offering two option packs that add extra toys to the mix. If you have an extra £1,930 to spend, the Spanish brand will sell you the Comfort and Sound pack, which gets a Beats audio system, heated front seats and an electrically operated tailgate.
Or, for a further £3,345, you could have the Design pack, which adds 18-inch Brembo brakes, black interior styling features and copper-coloured alloy wheels.
A range of single options are also on offer, including a tow hook (£690), bucket seats (£1,600) and a £1,040 panoramic glass sunroof.
