Delivery is free. Please allow two non-working days in December.
Alfa Romeo has partnered with tech firm Amazon to allow customers to book test drives of its Stelvio SUV online.
Like an Amazon parcel, prospective customers will be able to book the car in, then have it delivered at a time and place to suit them. The car will then be picked up after a 45-minute test drive.
The scheme will run until the middle of December, with bookings offered in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.
The cars will be delivered by an Alfa Romeo “specialist”, who will then be able to talk potential customers through the Stelvio’s features during the test drive.
If the customer wants to purchase the car, they will be directed to their local Alfa Romeo dealership, where they can place an order.
However, the test drives will only be available on selected dates, with London-based customers having the choice of every weekend between November 24 and December 16. Those in Manchester, Edinburgh and Birmingham, though, will only be able to book test drives on one weekend each.
Birmingham’s turn will come on December 1 and 2, while customers in Manchester will be restricted to December 8 and 9. Edinburgh will be the last stop on the tour, with test drives offered on December 15 and 16.
According to Alfa Romeo, all the test drive slots will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
James Marsh, customer experience director for FCA UK, said the scheme was a fresh approach to car sales, which would centre the experience around the consumer.
“The Stelvio is the first SUV from Alfa Romeo and with this new car has come fresh thinking,” he said. “Working with Amazon on this test drive programme has given us the chance to really put our customers at the centre and make the whole process of trying a new car as convenient as possible while still allowing them to experience the Alfa Romeo passion.”
The Stelvio is the latest addition to Alfa Romeo’s range, slotting in above the Giulia saloon at the peak of the range. Prices for the new SUV start at £36,990 for the 2.2-litre diesel with 188 bhp, while the cheapest petrol variant - the 197 bhp ‘Super’ model - comes in at £37,590.
Range-topping Quadrifoglio models, meanwhile, come with a 503 bhp 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine and cost £69,500. However, once a handful of choice options have been selected, that price can reach towards £80,000.
