John Barclay and WP Nel have signed new kinds of deals with the Japanese 4x4 manufacturer.
Scottish rugby players John Barclay and WP Nel have become ambassadors for Mitsubishi in the UK.
The Japanese SUV manufacturer has already sealed the services of the players’ club team-mate, Tom Brown, as well as sponsoring their side, Edinburgh, since 2013.
The three players, the club and the car manufacturer will work together for the benefit of the supporters.
Hong Kong-born John Barclay, who has 71 Scotland caps and is starting his first season with Edinburgh after moving from Welsh club Scarlets, said he was looking forward to working with the car maker.
“Mitsubishi Motors is a brand that holds the same values as myself and the club I’m so proud to represent,” he said. “The long-standing partnership is a great example of commitment and I’m excited to be able to play a part over the coming season.”
Edinburgh Rugby’s managing director, Jonny Petrie, added: “Mitsubishi Motors have been loyal supporters of the club for a long time now and I’m delighted that we can continue to support their ambitions with three great ambassadors.
“We’re all excited for the season ahead, and this new chapter in Edinburgh’s proud rugby history, so it’s great news that we continue to share the journey with the Mitsubishi Motors team.”
Meanwhile, Martin Woodward, Mitsubishi’s UK partnerships engagement manager, said the company would support the players and the rugby club, which plays in the Guinness Super 14 competition, wherever it could.
“We’re incredibly proud of our partnership with Edinburgh Rugby and are excited to welcome two new high-profile athletes to help us continue to support the club on and off the field,” he said.
