Entry-level version of updated SUV will cost £19,200.

The updated Jeep Renegade will arrive on UK shores in September, bearing a starting price tag of just over £19,000.

Offering new front-end styling, more economical engines and a refreshed interior, Jeep is hoping the newcomer will continue the success of its predecessor, which broke sales records for the American brand.

Renegade through the ages:

At first glance, the most immediate changes include the redesigned grille and the updated headlights, as well as the larger 8.4-inch infotainment screen fitted to higher-spec cars.

Under the bonnet, there’s the option of a new 1-litre petrol engine with 118 bhp, as well as a 1.3-litre unit with either 148 bhp or 178 bhp, depending on the customer’s choice. Diesel options include updated 1.6- and 2-litre engines, which have been tweaked to meet the latest emission standards.

There are subtle updates to the rear

The £19,200 entry-level car, though, is the Sport model, available solely with the 1-litre petrol engine, a manual gearbox and two-wheel drive.

Moving up to Longitude trim (from £21,700) gives customers the option of the 148 bhp 1.3-litre petrol engine or the 118 bhp 1.6-litre diesel, as well as a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Customers opting for the higher-spec Limited model, meanwhile, will have to spend at least £24,400 for the privilege of choosing from almost all the engines in the range and having the option of four-wheel drive.

New rear lights

The range is crowned, however, by the Trailhawk version, which costs £30,805 and is only available with the 168 bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine. Offering a nine-speed gearbox with low-range and four-wheel drive, it’s very much the off-roader’s choice in the range.

Every version of the Renegade will be offered with a range of safety systems, including lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition.

“The new Jeep Renegade has all the attributes of the last version, with a host of superb new features and a high level of standard equipment,” said Andrew Tracey, marketing director of Jeep UK. “Safety has been further enhanced and even greater fuel economy is offered thanks to some excellent new engines.

“I am delighted to announce pricing of this new 2019 Renegade and am also pleased to confirm that the car will be available with 5-3-5, our outstanding offer which consists of a five year warranty, a three year servicing programme, plus five years roadside assistance. There has never been a better time to own a Jeep Renegade.”
