Fiesta-sized hatchback will go on sale on September 1.

The updated MG 3 will go on sale on September 1 with an asking price of just £9,495.

Built to rival the likes of the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo, the budget hatchback has been given a sporty new design, fresh interior and an updated engine.

MG is making a comeback:

On the outside, the facelifted MG 3 is endowed with MG’s latest design language, which was first seen on the ZS SUV. There’s a gaping front grille and aggressive-looking bumpers, as well as new alloy wheel designs.

Inside, meanwhile, there’s a touchscreen infotainment system on high-spec models and a redesigned dashboard, complete with a steering wheel lifted straight from the ZS. It’s just as spacious as before, too, with a 285-litre boot, and there’s a seven-year warranty.

The modest starting price will buy customers the entry-level Explore model, which comes as standard with a radio and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as cloth upholstery.

Moving up to the £11,395 Excite version adds a sizeable eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Car Play and steering wheel-mounted audio controls, while the £12,795 Exclusive variant comes with a reversing camera.

Every model comes with the same 1.5-litre petrol engine, which churns out 105 bhp and returns 47.1 mpg with 140g/km CO2 emissions. The sprint from 0-62 mph takes around 10.5 seconds.

Daniel Gregorious, head of sales and marketing at MG Motor UK, said: “New MG 3 is another example of how we’re creating fantastic value-for-money packages across the range. Our seven-year warranty, high specification, competitive pricing, strong finance offers and fantastic design really set the new MG3 apart in the supermini segment.”
