Jaguar has revealed a new performance version of its F-Pace SUV at the New York motor show.

The 2017 World Car of the Year has been perked up by the company’s Special Vehicle Operations division with a 44 percent increase in power to 542bhp and 502lb ft torque from the car's 5-liter supercharged V8 engine. That all helps the F-Pace SVR to complete the 0-62mph run in 4.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 176mph.

Aerodynamic tweaks include larger air intakes along the front and side of the car that lower pressure in the wheelarches and provide additional cooling, revised body mouldings around the car and a new rear spoiler.

The chassis has been upgraded to include progressive front and rear springs that are 30 and 10 percent stiffer respectively and incorporate an anti-roll bar specification that Jaguar says contributes to a five percent reduction in body roll.

The F-Pace SVR gets 21-inch wheels as standard, with 22-inchers available as an option which are made from lightweight, high-performance materials.

A particular highlight on the hot SUV is Jaguar’s active exhaust system, which is 6.6kg lighter than the standard unit but also channels the gases to create a fruity soundtrack.

‘The F-Pace SVR delivers the handling and agility to match its performance,’ said Jaguar’s chief engineer Mike Cross. ‘Everything from the steering to the bespoke suspension set-up has been tuned specifically for our performance SUV.

The new car also gets Jaguar’s new rear electronic active differential to help distribute power to the road as well as an active suspension system. None of that affects the car's practicality, however – the F-Pace still comes along with 650 litres of loadspace in the boot and a fancy 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
