Last year Aston Martin announce that it would enter the hyper car game with one of the most extreme road legal cars ever with the Valkyrie. Now the track-only Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro takes that concept to a new level.

Designed by Red Bull Racing’s Adrian Newey, the Valkyrie is an alien looking craft that boasts performance to rival LMP1 Le Mans racers by using the latest Formula One science. The Geneva motor show was used as a platform to announce that this car would become even more extreme in the form of an AMR Pro variant. By removing the legalities required for the road, this very special Aston can be made even faster.

The naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine that’s shoehorned into this tiny car is boosted by a battery pack to deliver in excess of 1,100bhp. By recovering lost energy through braking, the engine can store that power for use later. Aston say that top speed was never a priority for this car, but even in a high-downforce configuration the Valkyrie AMR Pro can still hit 225mph. No 0-62mph time has been given so far, but considering that this car has more than 1bhp for every kilogram of weight, it’s going to be impressive.

Wider than the road car, the track-only Valkyrie produces notably more downforce thanks to enhanced wings and reconfigured active aerodynamics. It is actually capable of creating in excess of 1,000kg of downforce meaning that it’s technically possible for this Aston to drive upside down and not fall from the roof. Weight has also been removed thanks to polycarbonate windows, a lighter exhaust system, moulded race seats and carbonfibre suspension components.

F1 designer Adrian Newey said 'The Aston Martin Valkyrie road car draws extensively from the knowledge I have gained during my career in Formula 1, but the AMR Pro version has allowed me to work beyond the constraints of road legality, or indeed practicality! We’ve told a few of its secrets, but by no means all. I will leave it to the public to ponder the lap time predictions. Suffice it to say they’re quite impressive.'

We know Newey is set to take delivery of his own Valkyrie in 2019.
