The latest iteration of Citroen's visually challenging C4 Cactus has arrived on sale in the UK. Priced from just £17,265 on the road, the new Cactus benefits from that age-old Citroen feature – hydraulic suspension.

This time they're calling the French car maker is calling the system the 'Citroen Advanced Comfort' programme, and it features 'Progressive Hydraulic Cushions' and 'Advanced Comfort' seats to create an unrivalled smooth ride.

The Citroen Advanced Comfort programme is an integral part of the car, says Citroen, and it has been designed to 'emphasise a feeling of reassurance, comfort and calm'. That or to put it more plainly, it manages OK on the awful roads that are to be found in the UK.

Order books are now open, with two trim levels available at first – Feel and Flair. For a limited time only and because it's feeling particularly generous, Citroen is offering the limited run Feel Edition model with a PureTech 82 petrol engine. The regular engine options range from 110 to 130bhp outputs, and there are both petrol and diesel variants available. Manual gearboxes are standard across the range, but a six-speed automatic can be specified with the Flair trim car.

Compared with the outgoing model there are several upgrades to be found on the new 2018 facelifted C4 Cactus, including 12 driver assistance systems that are now on offer, including active safety braking, grip control and lane departure warning. There's lots of connectivity tech on offer too – these include Citroen Connect Nav, Citroen Connect Box with the brand’s Emergency & Assistance system and Mirror Screen functionality. We're not really sure what any of them do, but they sound great.

A particular feature on the interior is the new 7-inch touchscreen display that controls most of the functions of the car, including the air conditioning. There are a range of exterior colours available for the Cactus, and four variations on what Citroen calls interior 'ambience', where you can pick the colour of the dashboard.

First deliveries of the new Cactus are expected to commence in April.
