Vauxhall has announced the price of what is one of its fastest cars ever.
Vauxhall has announced prices for the new performance version of its flagship Insignia model, the GSi.
The latest Insignia is available in both saloon or estate forms — sorry, Grand Sport or Sports Tourer — and there are two engines available, a 2-litre turbocharged petrol unit or a 2-litre twin-turbo diesel.
The GSi was developed on the iconic Nürburgring circuit, and was the fastest Vauxhall ever to lap the historic former-grand prix circuit. Helping that is the fact it's 160kg lighter than its predecessor, plus all-wheel-drive with torque vectoring, a mechatronic FlexRide chassis, Brembo four-cylinder brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres on 20-inch rims.
There are four driving modes to choose from thanks to the GSi’s FlexRide system that allows the driver to adjust damping, steering, gear change points and the car’s stability and traction systems.
The engine choices consist of a 256bhp 2-litre petrol engine, or a 207bhp 2-litre twin-turbo diesel engine. The engines produce 197g/km CO2 (petrol) or 192g/km CO2 (diesel). Both engines are matched up with an eight-speed automatic gearbox that offers steering wheel-mounted shift-paddles. The top speed is 155mph, while in Grand Sport trim, the 0-60mph dash is handled in 6.9 seconds.
Design features on the exterior of the car include chrome air intakes, front and rear GSi bumpers, side sills and a large GSi rear spoiler (Grand Sport only), as well as Vauxhall’s innovative IntelliLux LED matrix headlamps. Inside there's full-leather front sports seats, sporty aluminium pedals, a Bose sound system, an 8-inch colour information display with navigation, plus heads-up display.
The Insignia GSi arrives in showrooms in March priced from £33,375 on-the-road for the Grand Sport, while the Sports Tourer starts at £34,875.
