It's the longer Lexus RX that Gotham deserves.
Rumours of a larger, more luxurious Lexus RX have been rather a while in the making. Thankfully, at this year’s Los Angeles motor show, we’ll finally get to see a stretched version of the Japanese SUV in full – Lexus has teased the new RX 350L and RX 450hL with a pair of images that don't give much away as to what the car's final look will be.
Initially rumoured to be making its debut last month at the Tokyo show, the Japanese car maker has seemingly forgone its home show and instead opted to debut the new SUV in North America. Reports suggest that the new RX 350L will ride on the same platform as the current RX, with only a slight increase in rear overhang.
The back window will be moved further towards the rear, the size of the current rear boot opening will remain the same and of course a third row of seats will be added. We saw photographs of an extended version of the RX back in August, which previews the proposed update, albeit underneath a heavy amount of camouflage.
'The RX that paved the way for the luxury SUV segment 20 years ago will retain its stylish figure while also providing more flexibility for passengers,' said the company in a statement.
Two versions of the longer RX will debut in LA – a standard petrol-powered RX 350L and a hybrid RX 450hL. The former option will undoubtedly use the same 3.5-litre V6 producing 295bhp and eight-speed automatic as the standard car, while the latter will get the same hybrid setup that produces 308bhp. Doors to the LA show open to the press on 27 November.
Lexus RX Three-Row Spy Shots
How can the top-selling Lexus RX get even better? Make more of it. The all-new 2018 RX 350L, now featuring three rows, will make its World Premiere at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. The hybrid model, the RX 450hL, will also be announced. The RX that paved the way for the luxury crossover segment 20 years ago will retain its stylish figure while also providing more flexibility for passengers.
The RX 350L will be revealed at the Lexus Press Conference taking place on November 29, 2017 at 10:00 am PST in the South Hall at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
