The tourist guides are being hastily rewritten. It seems that Leicester – home of crisps, unlikely sporting triumphs and the final resting place of King Richard III – is also the UK capital city when it comes to classic cars.
Research from ClassicLine Insurance has shown that Leicester has over a third more classic cars covered than anywhere else in Britain, with Birmingham and Coventry in second and third to ensure a Midland lockout of the most popular areas for classic car owners. We think you'll agree that the situation is a perfect fit given the area's rich motoring heritage.
Away from the Midlands, places in the south such as Guildford, Tunbridge Wells and Reading also feature high on the list of ClassicLine Insurance policy holders, but none of them have managed to break into the top three.
'It’s great to hear that people in the Midlands love their four-wheel friends more than anywhere else in the country, especially as the area has a strong automotive history,' said Ian Fray, MD of ClassicLine Insurance.
'What could be better than taking a trip to the Peak District, motoring along Leicester’s leafy lanes or enjoying Warwickshire’s winding roads than behind the wheel of a classic car. This certainly seems be what Midlander’s are doing in their droves.'
