For those seeking an alternative to diesel in their compact SUV, but still wanting a bit of get-up-and-go, it’s Renault to the rescue: the firm has launched a new 1.6-litre turbo TCe 165 Kadjar variant, making it the most powerful Kadjar yet released.

The new model is available to order now and deliveries begin later this month. Capable of 0-62mph in 9.2 seconds, the new turbo petrol can also return a creditable 47.1mpg, and CO2 emissions are capped at 134g/km. It’s offered on Dynamique Nav trim and up, with prices starting from £22,915.

And if petrol isn’t for you, there’s more choice in the diesel range too – the introduction of a 1.6-litre dCi 130 X-Tronic automatic. This two-pedal model uses a CVT-style auto, which helps give it strong economy and CO2 figures: 58.9mpg combined and 123g/km CO2 respectively. This similarly is offered in Dynamique trim and up; prices start from £26,015.

The Kadjar itself costs from £19,785, and Renault boasts it’s been something of a hit: since being launched two years ago, more than 45,000 have been sold in the UK alone. As a reward, there’s a bit of an equipment boost from Dynamique Nav trim and above – the Renault Keycard now has clever hands free and walkaway functionality.

Without touching the key, the daytime running lights will, as if by magic, turn on and the door mirrors will unfold as you walk towards the car; the car will also unlock. Similarly, when you walk away, the car will auto-lock, the door mirrors will fold back and the lights will extinguish.

Renault also reminds us that the Kadjar, like all its cars, gets a four-year warranty in the UK, an extra year over the norm from brands such as Ford and Vauxhall.
