Vauxhall wants a piece of the lifestyle market dominated by Volkswagen: so it’s launching a “new Vivaro lifestyle van with a bed.”

Those are Vauxhall’s own words, not ours. There doesn’t appear to be much fancy about the Vivaro Tourer Weekender: it really is just a van with windows and rear seats that fold into a bed. From these pictures, revealed ahead of its official public debut later in the week, we can see there’s no shower or in-built kitchen. But at least the couple in the pictures look happy.

Power comes from a 1.6-litre CDTi turbodiesel engine producing 123bhp or 143bhp, depending on how thrifty you are with your friendly Vauxhall dealer.

"The Tourer Weekender is the ideal lifestyle vehicle, especially if your trip includes an overnight stay,” said Vauxhall’s commercial vehicles chief, Steve Bryant. We agree – vans with beds in the back are the best kind of vans for overnight trips.

“It expands our portfolio and take us into a new area of the market,” Bryant added.

Prices are yet to be revealed, but deliveries from Vauxhall’s Luton plant are expected to start later in the year.
