Need for Speed Payback will debut 6th-gen car this autumn.
BMW is giving keen gamers a treat – by launching the new 2018 M5 in the upcoming video game Need for Speed Payback AHEAD of the car’s physical launch in dealers next February. It’s the first time BMW has launched a car in a video game.
Bosses say the game will provide players with a neat opportunity to sample the 591bhp M5’s new M xDrive all-wheel drive running gear, “across various terrains in Need for Speed Payback”.
BMW M president Frank van Meel believes the new car is “the perfect feature for Need for Speed… while the M5 won’t be officially released until next spring, Need for Speed players can drive it first, and exclusively… we at BMW M are extremely proud of this collaboration”.
The firm believes it’s the ideal opportunity to reach new, younger audiences – although it’s not the first time BMW has officially featured in video games: the 1999 M5 was part of the garage for the original Need for Speed, and BMW’s featured in every edition since.
The new title is released from November 7th for Need for Speed Payback Deluxe Edition owners, three days earlier than its general release, although the new title will be open for limited-time online gaming from Thursday November 2nd.
“The new BMW M5 is a stunning car,” said Marcus Nilsson from the gaming company, one that is “one of the pinnacle rides in Need for Speed Payback”. And what will make it so thrilling for gamers?
