Production starts November 2017.
Revealing new spy shots of the upcoming all-new Volkswagen Touareg show the new luxury SUV will be the latest VW to sport the firm's more stylish new design style first seen in the new Arteon. The spied camouflage-light prototype carries both a bolder new grille and headlights more tightly integrated into it.
Admittedly, the test vehicle still has plenty of thin strips of white camo to hide the real metal. However, it's still possible to make out the tighter, sharper design and more voluminous rear wheelarches, adding a bit more expressiveness to the staid Touareg design. We are pleased to report the dual exhaust tips are real, not like on the Audi SQ5 or other more expensive cars.
Don't be misled by the tail lamps that look rather like those on the current car, either: they're fakes. Prettier, more modern units are sitting beneath them, probably fully equipped with LED or even OLED wizardry.
Once the disguise fully comes off, expect the third-generation Touareg to look a lot like the T-Prime concept introduced a little over a year ago:
Riding on the VW Group’s MLB Evo platform like the Audi Q7, the new posh SUV will hit the assembly line at the factory in Bratislava, Slovakia in November. That means we will likely get to see it in the metal at the Frankfurt Motor Show two months earlier, although an online reveal could occur even sooner than that.
