One of the many tricks that Lamborghini uses for giving the Huracán Performante a record-setting time around the Nürburgring is the company's new Aereodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA) active aerodynamic system. In a new video, the Italian supercar maker reveals how the high-tech aid helps the coupe speed even more quickly around a track.
On the Huracán Performante, ALA comprises two active aero elements. One is deep within the front bumper, and the other adjusts airflow at the rear wing. When drivers have the throttle down for maximum speed, the system trims these devices for minimising drag. When the time comes to stop, the elements move into a position for maximising downforce.

In an especially neat touch, the ALA system is not simply on or off. When a driver is cornering the aero elements can adjust to put more downforce on the inner wheels entering the turn for improved traction.
The high-tech ALA system is exclusive to the Huracán Performante for now and would presumably come on the upcoming Spyder, too. However, Lambo’s performance innovations often trickle down to other models over time, so it’s conceivable future variants of the Huracán might incorporate these active aero elements in some way.
In addition to ALA, the Huracán Performante makes extensive use of Lambo’s Forged Composite carbon fibre. Premiering first on the Sesto Elemento, the material refers to the Italian supercar’s method of creating a more easily moulded version of the lightweight material. In the latest application, it helps slice 41kg off the Performante versus a regular Huracán.
Using the brand’s most-powerful V10 ever certainly helps Performante’s laps times, too. The 5.2-litre powerplant pumps out 630 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox routes power to the front and rear, and depending on the drive mode, the system prioritises torque to the appropriate axle.
The Performante with all of its high-tech tricks goes on sale this summer for £173,271.
