This June 18th the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu will play host to the Hot Rod & Custom Drive-In Day, which event organisers hope will be a fitting excuse to celebrate Father’s Day. The preceding day is also expected to be a popular one, thanks to the two-day Simply VW event, which kicks off on the Saturday.
Making a weekend of it appears to be the recommended plan, as you camp with your qualifying Volkswagen in the grounds of the National Motor Museum for the night. This is the first time the two events have run on the same weekend.
The Saturday will see VW owners and clubs showcase their cars, with everything from air-cooled icons such as the Beetle and Karmann Ghia, to modern classic including Golfs, Polos, Sciroccos and camper vans at the event.
The two-day event continues with Sunday’s Hot Rod & Custom Drive-In Day, where organisers predict more than 500 hot rods and customised vehicles will be in attendance. The event, held in association with classic American car club Solent Renegades, will show all manner of weird and wonderful machines ranging from stripped-out hot rods and mega-powered monsters to cool customs and ‘slammed’ cruisers.
During both shows, visitors can vote for their favourite vehicles in the People’s Choice Award. The winners will be presented with a Beaulieu trophy and an Autoglym car care prize package.
Tickets can be bought in advance online or on the day, and entries for participants are still be accepted.
