It's not all about speeding, seatbelts and mobile phones, you know.

Road safety organisation GEM Motoring Assist is warning drivers about some of the other transgressions that could bring them to the attention of the police – it’s not just about speeding, seatbelts and mobile phone use behind the wheel.

The safety body has warned drivers about a host of other infringements that could result in them picking up fines they may not have been expecting. The call comes as police across the UK begin a seven-day speed enforcement operation to clamp down on unruly drivers.

GEM road safety officer Neil Worth said: “We encourage all road users to brush up their Highway Code knowledge and to ensure that they are not putting themselves at unnecessary risk of a penalty ticket. After all, there is a safety reason why our laws are there, and the more we all know about our driving environment and the rules in place to keep us safe, the less we are likely to fall foul of them.”

GEM has identified five situations – generally less obvious – where getting it wrong can lead to a penalty. Click on the next button above to read more.
