Smart Fortwo Cabrio - £13-14k
Kicking-off between £13-14k is the Smart Fortwo Cabrio, currently the cheapest means of going topless. This pint-sized car is perfect for city dwellers hoping to soak up some sun on the way to the office.
You can even have an electric one!
Fiat 500C - £14k
The Fiat 500 is now over 60 years-old, but the latest incarnation is still very popular. It might keep its side pillars, but the roof does retract the whole way to give you an open-air experience.
If you fancy something with a bit more punch you should check out the Abarth 595 Turismo.
Caterham Seven 160 - £18k
Arguably the car that will put the biggest smile on your face, the Caterham Seven is all about lightweight thrills. Its 80bhp 660cc engine powers the rear wheels and can get you to 60mph in 6.5 seconds — dependant upon what you’ve had for breakfast of course.
You can even save yourself a few grand it you’re willing to build it yourself.
Mazda MX-5 - £19k
The latest generation Mazda MX-5 is a mighty fine sports car that recaptures much of the original’s magic. With a roof you simply fling over your head to stow, and rev happy naturally aspirated engine range, it’s one of our favourite drop-tops.
DS 3 Cabrio - £19-20k
The DS 3 is getting on a bit now, but it’s the only thing that comes close to a Mini for style. It has aged well and just like the Mini there’s a punchier performance model too.
Mini Convertible - £20k
The fashion conscious Mini Convertible has a big fanbase and has become one of the most popular cars in this segment. A recent facelift has introduced even more ways to customise your Mini including bespoke 3D printed parts.
Fiat 124 Spider - £21k
The Fiat 124 Spider is based on the Mazda MX-5 but offers a turbocharged engine in place of the Japanese car’s naturally aspirated options. It’s notably more expensive and not as enjoyable to take on a B-road blast, but if you’re after Italian styling your options are limited.
BMW 2 Series Convertible - £28k
The 2 Series Convertible ditches its coupe profile for one of a sophisticated soft-top. It’s one of the priciest on this list, but it’s good range of engines and plush interior makes it a worthy consideration.
Audi A3 Cabriolet - £30k
Here’s one for those who are a bit brand sensitive. At £30k it only just makes it onto our list, but many can’t resist the appeal of being associated with the four rings. It’s a smart looking car that your mother-in-law would definitely approve of.
