Peugeot has launched a new special 208 variant called the Black Edition – and enlisted the help of recently-enlisted brand ambassador, 2016 FIA Ladies European Rally Champion Catie Munnings, to roll out the new car in a punchy launch video.

Priced from £14,595, the 208 Black Edition uses the 82 horsepower version of Peugeot’s 1.2 PureTech engine, and is decked out in a full infotainment pack: 7-inch colour touchscreen, DAB, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All it lacks is sat nav, but if you have a smartphone, as many target younger drivers will, you can just use the navigation on your device.

Offered in either Nera Black, Bianca White or Hurricane Grey, 16-inch gloss black alloys with white laser engraving feature on all models. They also have gloss black finish on the grille and colour-accented gloss black door mirror caps. Peugeot reckons it’s now going to become a core model in the three-door 208 range.

18-year-old Catie last year became the first female European Rally champ in more than half a century, and it sounds like she has bigger plans in store with Peugeot. “I’m very excited to kick start my next chapter with Peugeot. There are some exciting projects in the pipeline that I‘m thrilled to be a part of.” Not bad for someone who only started her racing career at the end of 2015.
